Satirical print in which Napoleon III stands on the back of Wilhelm I and clings to a pole which supports a French soldier. The pole is lettered with the words '1870 Pouvoir 1852'; it has snapped and Napoleon attempts to support the soldier with a pedestal lettered with the words 'Couronnement L'Edifice Plébiscite Sédan'. In the air to the right is an eagle in flight. In the clouds at the left of the scene, pointing at the soldier, is a female figure representing Liberty. In the background are the ruins of the city of Strasbourg which is engulfed in flames. Print from a set of caricatures, broadsheets and illustrations in ten volumes. Each volume is half-bound in red leather, gold tooled and stamped with imperial emblems, title etc.
