Place of origin

The Villa D'Este (a large palatial building that is a strong example of Renaissance architecture) viewed along, and partially obscured by, an avenue of trees. There is a small group of people playing instruments and dancing in the gardens to the right of the foreground; on an old arched bridge, ruins of an older building can be seen behind them. The scene is set on a sunny evening with the sun setting from the right, off picture, giving long shadows.
