This is a design for a stage setting, possible for the opera Scipio by Francesco Araja, produced at the court theatre, St Petersburg, 29 August 1745. The design has been transferred elsewhere by the back of the sheet being coated with black chalk, after which the drawing was traced on the front with another sheet below, which was thereby inscribed with chalk with the traced lines.
