Portrait of Dr Thomas Monro (1759-1823). (No. 43 of a "Collection of Original Portraits, 1825," formed by Dawson Turner.)
Inscribed Dr Thomas Monroe the first Collector of Turner & Girtins Drawings. Done with the Graphic Telescope April 12th 1812. and, in reverse Dr. Monro. In ink John Varley 1812.

TURNER, Dawson, F.R.S. (1775-1858): Collection.

"A Collection of Original Portraits, 1825." Vol. II. 69 portraits (numbered from 1 to 68: no. 22 missing,* and no. 17 consisting of 3 drawings), similar in character to those of the volume described above, and in an uniform binding [NB: See E.1094 to 1135-1927; which binding is described as crimson crushed morocco with gold tooling and crest, motto and monogram of Dawson Turner.] The "List of Subjects", in the case of this volume, is placed at the end. This list, the title-page and the inscriptions generally added to each drawing (name of artist and date, and name of subject) were all evidently written by the same hand as those of Vol I.
