The Palestine Liberation Organization or PLO was founded in 1964 at the first ever Arab summit meeting. It acts as a council composed of various political factions. The PLO was initially committed to the dissolution of Israel through armed force. In 1974, the year this poster was made, the PLO began to be taken seriously - it was officially recognised by the United Nations. A Palestinian "government in exile" was established with the hope that contested land regained from Israel (the West Bank of River Jordan) could be reclaimed as the Palestinian state.
