Formerly thought to be a study by Giovanni Bologna for the statue of St. Luke on 'Or San Michele', the model has close affinities with sculptures by Orazio Mochi (d.1625).
Formerly in the Gherardini Collection of artists’ terracotta and wax models. It was acquired in 1854.
