Bauet Auf Den Arbiterrat...

Poster
1920 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Opponents of communism in Austria and Germany characterised the movement as violent and essentially destructive. Propaganda on both sides showed communists tearing down state buildings as a metaphor for the abolition of the existing order. In contrast the simple motif of an ascending red brick wall in this poster focuses on the creation of a new communist society. It holds out the promise of post-war reconstruction.
