Descriptive line

Cutting from a Gradual. Initial R, half in red and half pen-work depicting monsters. Letter depicts the Resurrection with Christ above and the three sleeping soldiers in armour below. All on burnished gold ground. Outside the letter are five Drolleries. Netherland, eary 14th century. A duplicate number MS.191 was assigned to this object in error and was subsequently cancelled.
