The Richard Chester covered cup
1625–6
This cup was commissioned by the will of Richard Chester who commanded a ship sent against the Spanish Armada. He later became Master of the Corporation of Trinity House, an organisation responsible for the safety of shipping which was established in Deptford, London, by Henry VIII. The security of travel by sea was vital to the success of the Muscovy Company and trade with Russia.
