The Black Panther Party for Self Defense was founded in Oakland, California in October 1966. On 25 April, 1967, the first issue of their official newspaper 'The Black Panther: Black Community News Service' was distibuted. The paper played an important role in disseminating their militant revolutionary political agenda. Their founding principle was to fight by any means necessary for the equality of all oppressed minorities.
