Costume for a Minstrel in the Banquet scene. Medieval style waisted jacket with short skirts, fitted long sleeves under hanging sleeves and round neck in pink, black and off white felt, fastening down front.
The right-hand chest, shoulder and half back to waist seam are of pink felt with, down front opening, four graduated bars of off white felt. The left-hand chest, shoulder and half back to waist seam is of black felt with similar off-white felt bars down front opening. The right-hand skirt is of black felt and the left of pink felt, giving chequered effect. The long fitted undersleeves are of off-white felt with, down outer arm from shoulder to wrist, a bold stripe of red felt, bound at wrist with cuff band edged in pink; the oversleeves are of cream felt overlaid with vertical strips of black felt interspersed with horizontal off white bands, giving the effect of slashed sleeves bound at lower edge with a white felt band cuff. Around the neck are three graduated padded rouleau bands of off white felt. The costume fastens down the front with hooks and eyes and is lined with white cotton.

The left hand sleeve has four bands of black strips and the right hand has five.

Object history
This costume was worn in a production of the wordless mystery spectacle 'The Miracle' by Karl Volmoller at the Lyceum Theatre, London, 1932. The music for the production was composed by Engelbert Humperdinck, and the scenery and costumes were designed by Oliver Messel.
