Place of origin |
In 1983, United States President Ronald Reagan proposed the Strategic Defense Initiative, popularly known as "Star Wars", which was a space-based defense system to prevent enemy missile attack particularly from the U.S.S.R.. Though the plan was ultimately abandoned, concerned scientists and members of the public all over the world voiced their desire for nuclear disarmament: the lesson was learned about the horrors of nuclear weaponry from the atomic bombs dropped on Japan in 1945.
This poster is likely an example from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) in the United Kingdom. Its message is also a rallying cry against the potential dangers of greed and arrogance which they believed were borne of the capitalist agendas of the Reagan and Thatcher administrations.
