Hull of the Dutch ship Geloof; from ahead, port side

Drawing
17th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The Geloof, Amsterdam, was built in 1661(?), with 76 guns; it was last mentioned in 1674. There is another, probably less accurate drawing of the ship from the same viewpoint by the younger van de Velde, dated 1661, in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. Both drawings are of the same size, and there appears to be some unexplained connection between the two. The ship also appears in one of the drawings by the elder van de Velde of the Four Days’ Battle (June 1666), in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam.
