Bonnet for Martha Blanchard worn by Nancy Price. Small black velvet 'old lady' bonnet. The velvet is loosely gathered to fit across the head. The left side of the 'gathered' brim is decorated with motifs in jet beads and black sequins, artificial roses and daisies in red velvet, blue and green cotton, and daisies formed of paper backed with coarse pink muslin, and painted muslin with yellow wool centres. On the right is a black satin bow. The 'bonnet' is lined with black cotton. Attached at lower edge are bluish violet ribbons, wired around the back edge, continuing into long ties.

Object history
Bonnet for Martha Blanchard worn by Nancy Price in the play 'The Orange Orchard'. The play was written by Eden Phillpotts and adapted by Nancy Price from a radio version broadcast on 12th February 1950 in the West of England region. The play was performed at the New Lindsey Theatre Club, London, 12th April 1950 by the People's Theatre (London). The scenery was designed by Richard Lake, and the production was directed by Nancy Price. The costumes were supplied by L&H Nathan Ltd.
