Chuck Taylor

Pair of Boots
1989 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This dishevelled-looking pair of Converse boots was exhibited at the V&A in the Streetstyle exhibition in 1996. They were shown as part of a surfer’s outfit. The official name of these shoes is the Chuck Taylor All Star; they are seen on the feet of men and women alike. Although always a casual shoe, the All Star has gone through a series of make-overs, customisations and image changes. In spite of these changes, the distinguishing feature of the rubber-tipped toe has remained. This cream canvas version dates from 1989 and differs little from what is available in shops today.
