Tanqueray was one of the most stylish society photographers of the 1920s and 1930s. Gertrude Lawrence was a star of musical comedy on stage and screen. She had a close professional association and friendship with the dramatist and writer Noel Coward, sang many of his hit songs and co-starred with him in the play Private Lives (1930).
