Colbacchini (sale, Sotheby, 22 May 1871, lot 129 or 130, bought by the Museum) The former attribution to Taddeo Zuccaro is not convincing. The style suggests an artist under the influence of Perino. The type of frieze that consists of a row of tablets flanked by squatting caryatids is characteristic of Perino. The frieze in the drawing is similar to one designed by Perino in the Palazzo Massimi, Rome. See K. Oberhuber, 'Observations on Perino del Vaga as a draughtsman' in Master Drawings, 4, 1966, p. 173, fig. 1. Compare also two drawings by Perino for that or a similar frieze illustrated ibidem, pls. 38a and 38b. They are in the Kunstbibliothek, Berlin, inv. nos. Hdz. 417 and 418.
