The Noah's ark is decorated with straw work. It was made in Germany in about 1810. The technique of straw work involved dying pieces of straw different colours and glueing them in complex patterns on to the basic pinewood shape of the ark. The boat has a hollow inside as a storage place for the animals. There are 30 pairs of animals that belong to this ark. Each animal is carved from wood and painted. Noah and his wife are also included.
