Place of origin |
The text is a quotation from President F. D. Roosevelt's 'A call for sacrifice' radio address of 28 April 1942. It is an example of a poster being used in conjunction with radio to reinforce a message. Kollwitz's image was originally commissioned in 1924 by the Internationale Arbeiterhilfe [International Workers' Aid] for a poster entitled 'Germany's Children are Starving'. It was subsequently used in several posters in various countries and appears here anachronistically to support the American war effort.
