This poster was designed to encourage support in Catalonia for the Basques who, in 1937, were under siege by Nationalist forces, the latter supported by the German Condor Legion. It was the Condor Legion that bombed Guernica, the Basques' spiritual capital, in April 1937, and helped to organise the assault on the 'Iron Ring' defences around Republican Bilbao.
