A Communist-Social Democratic coalition briefly held sway in Hungary under the leadership of the revolutionary Béla Kun in 1919. The régime created a Red Army, but collapsed after failing in its promise to obtain Soviet aid. Dankó's bare-chested and muscled figure blends the image of soldier and labourer. Dynamic black lines and the forward surge of the flag and bayonet aim to inspire the viewer with the determination and energy of the revolution.

Physical description

A bare-chested muscled figure, a combination of soldier and labourer, charges leftward with a fixed bayonet in hand. In the background, black geometric factories spew thin trails of red smoke. A lage red flag occupies the majority of the background composition.
