Tretet der Deutschen Demokratischen Partei bei!

Poster
1918 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

In 1918 Germany was in economic and political turmoil after her defeat in the First World War. Here the energised style expresses this highly charged political atmosphere. The political parties that supported the new democratic republic in Germany adopted the new black, red and gold national flag in 1918. Shown here, it signals the prospect of a new era of hope and reconstruction. The flag had historical links with Liberalism in Germany and replaced the Imperial black, red and white.
