Acquired as Apt, late 18th century; relabelled c. 1770. For two similar ewers and basins see Dorothée Guillemé Brulon, La Faïence fine francaise, 1750-1867, Paris, 1995, p. 97, top left (where attributed to Apt or Castellet, end of 18th century) and Bernard Bumpus, 'Le fabrique de la veuve Arnoux à Apt et ses liens avec la societé Fouque-Arnoux' , Sèvres: Revue de la Sociéte des Amis du Musée Nationale de Céramique, No. 6, 1997, p. 26 (where described as 'about 1805, Apt, fabrique de la veuve Arnoux?').
