Object history
Apparently hard-paste porcelain (suggesting that it was a replacement, or that the pair was made up from stock) on a porcelain stand painted in enamel colours
Production
Modelled as the pair to L'Amour menaçant. Unlike the latter, this figure was not based on a marble sculptuer, although a plaster model of this subject was exhibited at the Salon in 1761. See Falconet a Sevres exhibition catalogue, Musee de Sevres, 2001, cat 92A, where the example exhibited is dated 1757-1766.
